It has all the good stuff, the fight against oppression, the spirit of humanity, and the unquenchable thirst of the arts.

A montage of their life on the island sets the tone of film.
- [MIFF 2026: The Sun Never Sets](https://edn.as/miff-2026-the-sun-never-sets-sets.md) - This film is one of the more light hearted choices for me this year. It’s a romantic comedy and the synopsis reminds me of the recent A24 film ‘Eternity’, where a person needs to choose between two people.
- [MIFF 2026: Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep](https://edn.as/miff-2026-yesterday-the-eye-didnt-sleep.md) - ‘Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep’ is a film with a good story, great storytelling, and very interesting cinematography. I felt like it was built like a short film. It has compressed storytelling and they used the “extra runtime” really well by making each shot meaningfully more cinematic.
- [MIFF 2026: A Girl Unknown](https://edn.as/miff-2026-a-girl-unknown.md) - The film follows the life of a girl, from a kid to adolescence. It has time skips and sort of chapters, though the chapters are not the same length. The pacing feels so well done, not too fast and not too slow. No part of the story over welcomed their stay, even with the deliberate cinematic style.

But the way it's told is not verbose at all, the intermingling between "fiction" and "reality" (in the movie universe) is done a satisfying way.

- [MIFF 2026: Minotaur](https://edn.as/miff-2026-minotaur.md) - I chose to watch this movie from the synopsis. It looks like the kind of drama/thriller that I like. To describe my taste, I quite enjoy Black Mirror although I’d be okay if some episodes are less gory. I don’t like thrillers that use jump scares to be entertaining.
